Slythereads: Bookish Plots and Animanga Characters

“Or perhaps in Slytherin you’ll make your real friends,
Those cunning folks use any means to achieve their ends.”
―
J.K. Rowling

Shanah over at the Bionic Book Worm hosts Tuesday parties and it’s the Slytherins’ turn to take the spotlight for the last week of the month in this Hogwarts House themed prompts.

Slytherin Traits:

They are ambitious, driven, goal focused, determined, prepared, perfectionists, adaptable, realistic, self-reliant, charming, assertive, and ruthless. They are highly selective with their loyalty, love positive attention and thrive on praise, care about the impression they give, demand respect, and can be disloyal.

BOOKS / SLYTHEREADS

Six of Crows (Six of Crows, #1)Warcross (Warcross, #1)The Young Elites (The Young Elites, #1)

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

An impossible heist by an ambitious mastermind. Intriguing plot and intricately woven story of deceit, double-crossing and survival. Complex, cunning and misunderstood characters – they are bad and they know it.

The Young Elites by Marie Lu

An existing secret society, a girl who is cursed and who will do anything to survive. Her thirst for power, ambition, and the ultimate goal to conquer and rule.

Warcross by Marie Lu

A high-stakes and ambitious virtual reality game. A sinister plot and cunning mastermind. Secrets within secrets as you explore their world which makes for an intriguing read.

Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass, #1)Crazy Rich Asians (Crazy Rich Asians, #1)The Wicked King (The Folk of the Air, #2)

Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas

The first book in a series of the same name. It has five other books and has now reached its conclusion. Kings, queens, conquerors, and power-hungry players in this epic high fantasy. One of my favorite slythereads!

Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan

Super-rich Chinese families and all their gossip, backstabbing, and scheming around. It’s a very interesting read to say the least.

The Folk of the Air series by Holly Black

Scheming and plotting abound. Twisted, cruel and complicated characters. Vain, proud and seemingly perfect Fae running around and tormenting others and also themselves. Definitely a slytheread.

SLYTHERISH CHARACTERS

I know, I know… It’s supposed to be Top Five Tuesday and I already exceeded the number just from the books alone, but I also want to share some notable characters from anime/manga series that undoubtedly belong to Slytherin House in my eyes.

“And power-hungry Slytherin, loved those of great ambition.”

Light Yagami (Death Note)

“If Kira gets caught, he is evil. If Kira rules the world, he is justice.”

Lelouch vi Brittania (Code Geass)

“To defeat evil, I must become a greater evil.” & “It wasn’t me who was wrong, it was the world.”

Suwon (Akatsuki no Yona)

“What I want isn’t the power of gods. It’s power from the people.”

Ootori Kyoya (Ouran High School Host Club)

“Use whatever is at hand, be it friend or foe.”

Oikawa Tooru (Haikyuu)

“Don’t you ever forget my worthless pride.”

Looking at this list (and some of the books in my shelves) I realize that I am drawn to books for and of Slytherins. Not surprising since the most badass characters out there are often under the ambitious and cunning banner of this house. And if I have to choose just one, then it’s Kaz Brekker from Six of Crows who holds my heart in his Slytherish hands.

That’s it for this Tuesday! Thanks for reading.

    1. Worthy inclusions ☺️ SJM books are always on my lists, I had to stop myself from adding ACOTAR too.
Haruhi is also on another list tbh but the rest of the crew I’m not too sure. But it would be interesting to see their reactions indeed. Thats a novel idea!

  1. As a slytherin, I cannot but help but grin at the choices and recommendations. In particular to Light Yagami since he holds a special place in all our hearts (let’s be honest)! Very creative post, I’m excited to read more of your stuff for sure !
