“Only in art were there cliches; never in nature. There were no ordinary human beings. Everybody was born with surprise inside.”
― Jincy Willett
They also say that clichés are close friends with truths. Whatever the case, they exist and are here to stay, until new ones are born of course, and bookworms had created a tag designed to show off books which the readers may include under that category.
I was tagged by Andie @ Andrea’s Nirvana who is a fellow fangirl, reader and also a delightful blogger whom you should check out! Thanks Andie, you spoil me with these tags. ❤
So here are my truths to the clichés provided…
Actions Speak Louder Than Words.
A Book That Wasn’t Or Couldn’t Be Better Than The Movie.
One name reason: Dylan O’Brien. Another great reason: Ferb is here as Newt. Third and final reason: I have no desire to reread the books.
The Grass Is Always Greener On The Other Side.
A Rags To Riches Or Riches To Rags Story.
Before the billionaire, there’s the poor Christian as in a really poor poor thing… And in Ana’s case, it comes with the package of being with Christian later on. But rags to riches in both cases.
A Cinderella story through and through. From pauper to a princess.
Oh yeah, this too…
The Apple Does Not Fall Far From The Tree.
A Parent Child Relationship That You Love
I’ll be putting out my default answer just because I can: Harry Potter books! I love the warmth and chaotic charm of the Weasley fam.
You Can’t Judge A Book By Its Cover.
A Great Book That Needs A Better Cover.
I am not a fan of having actual people on the cover (especially if shirtless and flaunting some muscles irrelevant to the story) though there are some exceptions. I loved the books but I read them on my kindle and would probably pass on buying the physical copies.
Same for the Elder Races by Thea Harrison and other paranormal romance books with similar covers.
You Can’t Please Everyone.
A Book You Hate That Everyone Loves.
I am stumped with this one because I can’t think of one.. But I remember reading The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo waaaay back and I felt very disturbed afterwards maybe because of some particular scenes (I was young and impressionable then). I don’t completely hate it but no other books came to mind.
What Doesn’t Kill You Makes You Stronger.
What’s A Book That Made You A Better Person For Having Read It.
There’s just something about Mitch Albom’s books that makes me think deeply about some things and that I could truly say I’m glad I read that book.
Love Is Blind.
A Book With A Disabled Character Or Actual Blind Love.
Aside from the book having a character that is disabled, this is also one of those rare exceptions that I would forgive a book for a having a cover related to the movie because these two are just.. ❤ Not just their portrayal of the characters but also because I really like the actors themselves.
Ignorance Is Bliss.
A Book That Is Bad But You Just Don’t Want To Admit It.
I don’t know if it’s because I was too young to understand about writing style or plot devices and all that but I completely fell for these books when I first received them as gifts and read about vampires and werewolves. I have a fondness for the Volturi. I haven’t had the time to reread them now what with all the new books and series out there but I remember that I really really liked this series. Not to mention the covers! Even now it still appeals to me, like this is how a cover should look like — simple but meaningful. But yeah, it was not the best one out there.
There Is No Time Like The Present.
What Is Your Favorite Contemporary Book?
Honestly, I have no idea about this so here’s a bunch of them I remember reading tagged under contemporary on Goodreads. One way or the other, they’re all memorable ones to me.
What exactly is a contemporary?
Better Safe Than Sorry.
A Book You Don’t Want To Read In Case It’s Bad.
“A classic is something that everybody wants to have read and nobody wants to read.” ― Mark Twain
Partly because I’m intimidated of the classics and I loved the modern adaptations too much.
Who wants to do this tag? I need a show of hands really cause I don’t know who to tag. Oh wait, I just found some friends whom I could possibly bother with this. I tag: Cindy | Sophia | Suzy | Clarissa and anyone who might be interested in this! If you choose not to do this tag it’s totally fine too! Take it as my hi to you guys. ^^
I didn’t know doing a cliché post is hard. Or maybe it’s just that book tags are hard for me. I’m having a hard time choosing books for these kinds of tags and I have yet to organize my manga shelves so I couldn’t include some titles here. Goodreads is not manga-friendly, I lament.
P.S. Not in a book/manga slump because I have been reading and reading these days but I find it hard to put up reviews right now so I’m doing these tags that are long overdue.
Thanks for reading!
I love this! The Weasley family is one of the best families I’ve come across in YA literature so far 😀

Yes! They’re a very realistic (except the fact that they are magic lol) and a relatable chaotic family which is just a delight to read. I could totally understand why Harry loves The Burrow 🙂

Thanks for the tag! 🤗
Me Before You is such an amazing book, and I agree that the actors themselves are so lovely.
I really need to read Tuesdays with Morrie!
I do disagree about the movie being better for The Maze Runner series, I would say they’re more on the same level. The film is exciting but I felt that the book was so fast-paced that they didn’t give us time to breathe and take it all in. 😞

If it’s not a bother 😊 You’re welcome.
It was so long ago that I read Tues With Morrie. Timekeeper is also a good one!
I don’t really remember much of the series except for how it ended and of course the first book. Though the book has more details I think the film really captured it well especially with the characters..

I’ll have to add Timekeeper to my list too, then!
The ending was pretty bittersweet, which made me feel sad for the characters. Yes, I agree with you, I remember in the film that they were able to capture the characters better than the book… I do need to finish watching the series though!

And I’m going to do it, possibly next week. Tag seems like fun!

Pride and Prejudice – one of my fave classics! I have not read a lot of classics as I would like to but P&P was one of my loves!
I also was in the same trap with Twilight. It sucked me in even though I knew it wasn’t the best. Though I think, personally, it was better written than 50 Shades (I was only able to get through the first book of that trilogy). I also didn’t think about it at the time, but it makes more sense now – apparently the author of 50 Shades didn’t do the best research in what deems a healthy dom/sub relationship? I don’t know for sure – because I read it so long ago I can’t remember. But apparently some people are using it as a guideline to S&M and they might be poorly educated.
[I also ready somewhere Park Jimin hinting he was reading a book with the main character being named Christian but he said he can’t say the name of the book. LOL! I don’t know if that’s true or not to be honest. Probably fans reading too much between the lines but if it’s true, I hope Jimin is not using it as a ‘how to’ guide. 🙂 Not faulting him or anyone for his curiosity though!]
Da Vinci Code was one book I just could not get into – after multiple attempts. But everyone around me loved it.
My last fave books were Station Eleven and The Lovely Bones. I use to read a lot of Haruki Murakami books but it’s been awhile… maybe I should get back into some of his more recent works.

I took a peek at the first few chapters of Pride and Prejudice today.. Hopefully I’ll love it as much as you did after I finish it 🙂
LOL that’s priceless if Jimin actually read that book!
Will be checking out those titles! Happy reading ~

Another classic I want to read is Hermann Hesse’s novel “Demian”. I totally admit the main reason is how it influenced BTS’ Blood Sweat & Tears. But I’ve read other bloggers mention it’s connects to some of their other songs as well (probably from the WINGS era). It’s got Kim Namjoon written all over it! He’s such a brain.

Sorry for the late comment, but I have some problems with my internet connection (namely, I don’t have an internet connection at home, yet, but that’s just a small detail). Anyway… thanks for tagging me! This tag is cute and I hope to do it soon.
To be honest, I have problems with book tag because I love them but I really couldn’t choose, but I’ll try! And I agree with the Ilona Andrews’ cover… I love that series but the covers, not so much!
