“Books are the ultimate Dumpees: put them down and they’ll wait for you forever; pay attention to them and they always love you back.”
― John Green
The Tuesday Parties continue!
Top 5 Tuesday is at Shanah @ Bionic Book Worm and today is a freebie.
I’ve also decided to join the one hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Top Ten Tuesday was originally created by The Broke and the Bookish and it was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was said to be born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
This week’s prompt is “Books I’ve Decided I’m No Longer Interested In Reading”, but I’ve decided to modify it just a bit to Books / Manga ‘On Hold’ for now.
As John Green had said – a book will wait for you forever (I’m trusting you on this Mr. Green!) – so here are the books and manga that will be waiting for me for a while:
Origin by Dan Brown
I started reading this last year but sadly I couldn’t get into it and I think I might have to read it from the start again.
There’s a certain formula to Dan Brown’s writing that seemed to work for his previous books given how controversial some topics are. But the novelty of such style is slowly wearing off on me.
I think I’ll try again soon but for now, I’ll put this book on hold.
Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead
This series has been waiting for me ever since I discovered the vampires in YA and I still haven’t found the motivation to start this one. Maybe because I didn’t like the movie adaptation either..
I recently got to talking to one of my friends about books when I went to a bookstore with her and she was shocked that I haven’t read this yet (was it that surprising?). I mean she knows my love for supernatural and YA books so she just assumed. And add to the fact that we both had already watched the movie.
Not sure if I will be able to read this but definitely not on my priority list.
Watersong Series by Amanda Hocking
This was added to my imaginary TBR list back when I still had no Goodreads account, so that was a long time ago. (That reminds me to update the books I’ve read by this author.)
The reason for it? Mermaids!
I have already finished the Trylle series by the same author back then and I remember that I liked it, so I took to her other books as well. I think I already read the first book but I never finished this series. I can’t even remember most of what happened in the first book because I read that years ago. I might have to start all over again when I pick this up.
Pretty Little Liars by Sara Shepard
For the record, I am still in a game of catch up with the TV series because I really do love Troian Bellisario and at times her character – Spencer Hastings.
But I have not read the books. I was going to read some of it before I started with the TV series but I ended up on watch mode rather than bookworm mode.
Still on-hold because that’s just too many books in a series!
Pittacus Lore Books
I already finished the seven books in the Lorien Legacies by Pittacus Lore. After the last book which is United as One, I set to reading some of the novellas which is in The Lost Files series. I still haven’t read them all and so I put it on hold for now.
But wait, there’s more! Apparently, dear old Pittacus Lore released another series which is Lorien Legacies Reborn and The Legacy Chronicles. I mean, are you kidding me? I can barely keep up with the original series and the novellas. Not to mention the diary thingy of some of the characters. And we got more books! So basically, everything by this author except for the original series is on hold for now…
Basically, the ones in this list are included because of the astounding amount of volumes/chapters the series already has, and so it will be on hold for now. I think I would devote a week or most probably a month to be able to read them all.
Ao no Exorcist by Kazue Katou
I already started this from what my vague memory tells me, but I was completely sidetracked by some things and now I have to start all over again I think?
Genres: Action, Adventure, Demons, Drama, Fantasy, School, Shounen, Supernatural
This world consists of two dimensions joined as one, like a mirror. The first is the world in which the humans live, Assiah. The other is the world of demons, Gehenna. Ordinarily, travel between the two, and indeed any kind of contact between the two, is impossible. However the demons can pass over into this world by possessing anything that exist within it. Satan the god of demons, but there’s one thing that he doesn’t have, and that’s a substance in the human world that is powerful enough to contain him!! For that purpose he created Rin, his son from a human woman..
One Piece by Oda Eiichiro
I have to. I just have to read this. Soon!
Genres: Action, Adventure, Comedy, Fantasy, Shounen
The “Pirate King,” just before his demise, confirms the existence of a great treasure, One Piece, located somewhere within the vast ocean known as the Grand Line. Announcing that One Piece can be claimed by anyone worthy enough to reach it, the Pirate King is executed and the Great Age of Pirates begins.
Monkey D. Luffy embarks on his own adventure, searching for One Piece and striving to become the new Pirate King. Armed with just a straw hat, a small boat, and an elastic body, he sets out on a fantastic journey to gather his own crew and a worthy ship that will take them across the Grand Line to claim the greatest status on the high seas.
Detective Conan by Aoyama Gosho
After watching several adaptations of this I think I will have to read the manga to appreciate it more. But … the last chapter count was 1008. How? How do I even start this one??
Genres: Adventure, Comedy, Mystery, Shounen
Shinichi Kudo is a high-school student who, by using observation and deduction, is good at solving mysteries. While investigating one, he is caught by the criminals that he was watching and forced to take an experimental drug. Leaving him for dead, the criminals disappear. Instead of killing him, however, the drug turns Shinichi into a little kid.
To preserve the illusion of his ‘disappearance,’ Shinichi adopts a new name based on his favorite author (Arthur Conan Doyle) and becomes Conan Edogawa.
Bleach by Kubo Tite
With 74 volumes and around 700 + chapters completed waiting for me, this will be one hell of a read when I finally get to it.
Genres: Action, Adventure, Shounen, Super Power, Supernatural
Ichigo Kurosaki has always been able to see ghosts, but this ability doesn’t change his life nearly as much as his close encounter with Rukia Kuchiki, a Soul Reaper and member of the mysterious Soul Society. While fighting a Hollow, an evil spirit that preys on humans who display psychic energy, Rukia attempts to lend Ichigo some of her powers so that he can save his family; but much to her surprise, Ichigo absorbs every last drop of her energy.
Now a full-fledged Soul Reaper himself, Ichigo quickly learns that the world he inhabits is one full of dangerous spirits and, along with Rukia—who is slowly regaining her powers—it’s Ichigo’s job to protect the innocent from Hollows and help the spirits themselves find peace.
Fairy Tail by Hiro Mashima
63 volumes. Also completed! I am contemplating whether I should read this or watch the anime first. Including this on the list of ‘on hold’ for now.
Genres: Action, Adventure, Comedy, Ecchi, Fantasy, Magic, Shounen
In the mystical realm of Earth Land, magic exists at the core of everyday life for its inhabitants, from transportation to utilities and everything in between. However, even with all its benefits, magic can also be used for great evil; therefore, to prevent dark forces from upsetting the natural order of things, there exists a system of magical guilds in the Kingdom of Fiore. Under the command of their respective guild masters, these guilds are made up of witches and wizards who take on various job requests to earn fame and fortune. One particular guild stands high above the rest in both strength and spirit, and its name is Fairy Tail.
That’s it for this Tuesday Parties! What’s in your list? Feel free to share them in the comments below.
Happy reading everyone!
