I have been absent from my blog these days but not on purpose. I have been travelling and now ended up back home with a few pounds gained and less stress. But even before I got my gears back up for blogging, I was hit by two news from the K-pop scene: a beginning and an end. Both about an idol, the first one will begin a new life with the person he loves, while the other allegedly ended his life because of his one great love.
Taeyang of Bigbang announced that he will be marrying his lady love Min Hyo Rin and this would be a cause for celebration since he was famous for being a ‘motae ssollo‘ (or mo-ssol, a Korean slang translated into English as “single since birth.”). Not to mention the memes that would now appear due to his famous hit song Wedding Dress (about a guy who was friend-zoned while the girl marries his friend).
But this positive side of the K-pop world was somehow pulled down by the darker aspects of it. Kim Jonghyun from SHINee has decided to end his life and even left a message to be released after his death. The singer who felt he wasn’t good enough; the vocal who was suffering but we never knew how deep his pain was. It would be an exaggeration to say that his music killed him but it seems to be the main cause for his depression. There are no words to express how deeply saddened I was by the news. I may not have been a Shawol but I have a healthy respect for that group and their music. Rest in peace, Jonghyun.
I just wanted to say that no matter how immersed we are on the K-pop world, we don’t know the half of what is happening with our idols life. They can choose what they let us see and what they keep close to themselves. We fans might have been part of writing the story of their music career but we’re only pages or mayhap even a chapter in the huge volume that is their lives. All we can do is cherish the memories that they make with us and continue to wish for their happiness wherever they may be..
Sincerely,
A fangirl
Although I am SHINee fan, it broke my heart.

They were one of the first k-pop groups I knew after TVXQ and SS501 so they will have a place in my heart. Many k-pop fans are heartbroken right now… 😥
